NIOSH asks: Can You Hear Me Now?
That loud machinery on the job might be doing more than just ringing your ears—it could be damaging your hearing for good. And if chemicals are involved? You could be risking balance issues, too."
NIOSH has released new guidance to help recycling facilities protect workers from noise-induced hearing loss and exposure to ototoxicants. Mental Health at Work: Supportive in Theory, Risky in Practice
Most workers say they’d support a colleague opening up about mental health—but nearly half fear doing the same would hurt their own careers. A new survey by NAMI shows that stigma, fear of judgment, and workplace culture are holding people back, even though 80% want more mental health resources and training. Only half know how to access mental health benefits, and just 1 in 5 receive any mental health training. The takeaway? Workers are ready for change—employers need to catch up.

Severe Pain, Not Work Pressure, Drives Opioid Use After Injury
Severe pain—not return-to-work timing—is the key driver of opioid use after a work injury, according to a Canadian study by the Institute for Work and Health. Among nearly 1,800 injured workers, those with severe pain were almost three times more likely to use opioids than those with little or no pain, regardless of whether they had modified duties or felt rushed back to work. The findings highlight a clear need for better pain management alternatives to reduce reliance on opioids in the injured worker population.
