TECHNOLOGY
Terminated by the Terminator.

AI meets robotics, meets you.

Robots enhance workplace efficiency and safety, reducing injuries in physically demanding tasks. However, the rise of AI has triggered job insecurity and potential mental health issues. How worried should you be? The Brookings Institute says, the jury is still out.

  • 45% of your fellow employees say, “don’t monitor me, it’s effecting my mental health ”. In 2022, 30% of all the claims filed with EEOC alleged discrimination based on mental health conditions and a Gallop poll revealed that mental health sick days are costing the economy $47.6 Billion dollars annually.

  • PPE gear is like a superhero cape, saving your coworkers from harm. But what if your coworkers acted more like reckless sidekicks, instead of the hero? Fear not! New vision AI systems, you'll have eyes everywhere, maybe AI monitoring has a place.

While it seems future tech is here to stay within the workplace, it is safe to say that balance is key to ensuring it works for you and your fellow employees.

COMPLIANCE
You’re in the business of violence.

Department of Violence.

Not like you needed anything else added to your work plate, but if you’re in California you just got an extra helping of responsibility. Starting next July employers are required to have a Workplace Violence Prevent Program in place. Luckily for you, it seems as if we may have found a 5 Step Compliance Plan. And just in case you’re not in California…

It’s easy to see why states are moving towards these requirements especially within the healthcare industry. Healthcare workers are 5 times as likely to experience workplace violence, compared to other workers. While healthcare workers may encounter workplace violence on a larger scale, it doesn’t mean it won’t happen where you work. According to the department of labor, there are approximately 2 million incidents of workplace violence every year. So what can you do about it? RISKWORLD 2023 thinks you need a predict- and -prevent approach.

While we are on the topic of building a safer work environment, here are 17 things to consider for you and your coworkers.

WAREHOUSE
Chicago Amazon Workers “Prime” for Injuries.

Amazon’s injury prevention plan as we see it.

For the sake of Illinois Amazon workers, maybe we all take a day off from ordering on Amazon. Reports of serious injuries at Chicago-area Amazon warehouses are twice the state average according to OSHA. In case you are wondering how widespread the problem is, 14 out of the 15 warehouses serving Chicago account for these numbers. But, one location seems to take the prize in terms of worker safety (or lack there of) with a serious injury rate that quadruples the state average.

So what's the problem? It appears we are. According to reports, the speed at which Amazon workers are expected to move to meet quotas is leading to an alarming number of musculoskeletal injuries. With the average worker twisting, bending, and reaching long distances as much as 9 times per minute, their bodies are being pushed to the limit to meet delivery expectations.
